CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS OF THE

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR BLACK GEOLOGISTS AND GEOPHYSICISTS STUDENT CHAPTER

 

Article I.         The name of the organization is the National Association for Black Geologists and Geophysicists (NABGG)

 

Article II.       The purpose of the organization is to:

1.     Inform students of career opportunities in geology and geophysics.

2.     Inform students of scholarships, grants, loans and other financial aid available to minority students.

3.     Follow educational careers of scholarship recipients.

 

Article III.      Membership

1.     Primarily students at the University of Oklahoma with majors in the areas of Geology and Geophysics.

2.     Also extended to all students properly registered at the University of Oklahoma despite academic major, race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, marital status, or political belief.

 

Article IV.      Officers listed in order of ranks:

                        A. President

                        B. Vice President

                        C. Secretary/Treasurer

 

Article V.       The meetings of the organization:

1.     Bi-monthly (at least), at 4:30 p.m. on Friday

2.     Special meetings shall be arranged by a member of the executive board a majority of the votes from the general body of the NABGG as needed.

3.     Required notice of meetings will be at the end of each regularly held meeting.

4.     Quorum shall consist of four people, including one member of the executive board to take minutes.

 

Article VI.      All meetings and elections shall be run according to the Robert’s Rules of Order.

 

Article VII.     Amendments to this Constitution can be made at any time by a majority vote of all the members at any regularly scheduled meeting at which amendment is read aloud to the body.

 

Article VIII.   Process of Elections

1.     Elections shall be held at the last regularly Scheduled meeting of the Spring semester.

2.     To be eligible one must be a participating member of the NABGG.

3.     Nominations shall be made by members of the NABGG.

 

Article IX.      The NABGG has and will at all times maintain an advisor who is a full-time member of the University faculty or staff.
